BRIEF: Create an awareness campaign that engages Millennials in one of the causes supported by the Jo Cox Foundation - civilians in conflict zones.

This campaign was a team project created in response to a real life brief received from the Jo Cox Foundation. My part of work was creating media lists and writing the below press release, which summarises the campaign concept.

I have also cooperated with a professional graphic designer Zuhair Mehrali to provide him with creative direction for a brand new logo design based on the foundation's values.

The Jo Cox Foundation sends 10 pairs of vloggers to help civilians in 10 conflict zones around the world

On 1st September 2018, The Jo Cox Foundation will launch MISSION: GAP YEAR, a new volunteering programme that aims to improve quality of life for civilians in conflict zones and educate young people about problems in these areas. Ten pairs, consisting of Millennial vloggers and travellers, will set on a mission to help people in need in ten locations around the world such as Mexico, Myanmar, Ukraine, Venezuela and more. The application process will be open until the end of September. The charity will then carefully consider each candidate and announce the chosen teams on 28th October, which is Make A Difference Day – a national day of service.

The volunteers will spend a month working with local charities and learning from citizens about their everyday problems. From the first day of the mission, each pair will record video diaries which will be available to watch on MISSION: GAP YEAR’s website or via Facebook Live. The vlogs and livestreams will show the real change any initiative can bring to families living in each of the countries suffering from the aftermath of political or ethnic conflicts. The vloggers will encourage their followers to donate or engage in the charity’s work and sign a digital letter to reach out to their local MPs. The form will be accessible on www.jocoxfoundation.org and will include demands for politicians to take action and help citizens in conflict zones.

Everyone who subscribes to the vlogs will receive a free awareness pack about the campaign   and areas the volunteers will camp in. Anyone who wants to help will be able to use the enclosed materials to increase awareness about all ten countries among friends, at universities and in their local communities.

After the international mission, The Jo Cox Foundation will release a short documentary series about the traveller’s experiences, interviews with politicians and audience’s responses to the campaign.

About The Jo Cox Foundation:

‘The Jo Cox Foundation exists to channel the energy and determination generated by Jo's life and untimely death into practical efforts to advance the causes she championed. As an MP, Jo didn't believe any issue was so intractable that it had to be left on the 'too difficult pile'. Led by her example, we are restless for change. Just as she did, we believe in working together with individuals and organisations that share the commitment to a fairer, kinder and more tolerant world.

We are convinced that by working together effectively we are greater than the sum of our parts. We seek to amplify the voices of all those who believe that compassion, understanding and optimism are signs of strength and not weakness. The Foundation exists to guide people towards those who are working on the things Jo was passionate about. People who know that it is not enough just to talk about what can make communities stronger or to complain about injustice, indifference or cruelty.’

‘Protecting civilians in conflict: The Foundation is carrying on Jo's lifelong commitment to increase support for the protection of civilians in conflict and to prevent mass atrocities. In January 2017, a report which was started by Jo ‘The Cost of Doing Nothing’ was launched at an event with Gordon Brown and William Hague. Following on from the report, the priority for the next year will be to develop and maintain political support for the full implementation of the Responsibility to Protect framework.’
